Locomotion agent™
Who is the Locomotion Agent?
The locomotion agent has about 100 film quality motion captured actions that cover sitting, standing, walking, jogging and running. The agent's action library includes uphill and downhill variation, swerving actions, and all of the actions necessary for natural transitions between sitting, standing, walking, jogging and running. There are also shuffle, "fidget" and step backward/forward/sideways actions that keep the agent alive and responsive even when standing still. The walking motion includes neutral, said and happy variations. By default the agents choose a random blend of happy or sad to provide variation in the crowd. The agents are able to avoid collisions with each other and to follow flow fields. They are also able to avoid collisions with other obstacles in the scene such as polygonal objects using vision. Using a combination of terrain adaptation and uphill/downhill blends the agents are able to very naturally traverse uneven terrain. The Locomotion agent is also have a sense of personal space, and will take small steps sideways, backwards or forwards to maintain their personal space. This agent has some crossover with the capabilities of the Ambient agent, but the Locomotion agent is better at terrain adaptation and can jog and run, while the Ambient agent is able to have conversations and has a much greater variety of sitting motion. There are 3 types of Ambient Agents: casual male, formal male and female. The video below demonstrates the Ambient Agent's capabilities.
Variation
Variation is essential for crowds. The Locomotion agent has plenty of variation in geometry, textures, shading and scale. The agent is supplied with well over 200 texture maps and bump maps and a wide variety of geometry. All of the variation can be adjusted via group variables, and these can be set even in Massive Jet and Massive for Maya.
